In a bizzare turn of events, UFC welterweight/middleweight contender Nate 'the Great' Marquardt has been released from the UFC. Marquardt, (10-4 UFC, 31-10 overall) made weight for his upcoming fight today versus Rick 'Horror' Story.
According to UFC president Dana White, Marquardt has failed his medical tests and "he will no longer be in the UFC". White posted a short video on his twitter account (video here:
http://www.tout.com/m/nsphwl), that left many wondering what had happened.
What makes this move so bizzare is that prior to his release from the UFC, Marquardt was ranked the #4 contender for his contender.
Even more bizzare is that fact that he is cut literally HOURS before his next fight, and is one of the UFC's top fighters.
I'll keep you guys updated on the situation, it has everyone (including me) puzzled.

What's even worse is that it's been nearly 24 hours and there still aren't details. This is 2011, everyone has twitter, facebook, and talks openly to the media, how has this not leaked or something.
As far as Nate, I'm a huge fan of his, it's a bit unfortunate, but barring some sort of disease, I doubt he'll be gone for long. The UFC can't thrive if they don't have the top competition and Nate is clearly one of the 10 best fighters at any weight class he fights at. Top level fighters aren't expendable.
Good reading my friend.
@braumaman
I feel the same away, especially about the lack of information with plenty of media outlets. Apparently Nate's camp will be making a statement on Ariel Helwani's pre-fight show via twitter, maybe we'll shed some light there =/
Damn, being cut just hours before his match. That must suck!
Conspiracies, conspiracies everywhere!
that sucks
Might it be drugs?
poor guy :(
why on earth would he fail his medical tests? has he been doing drugs?
how is that possible?
that's gotta suck for him
interesting :] wonder what happened
Hmmm sounds shady
that is unfortunate news :(
that's some kind of mafia behind it, I bet
Turns out his levels were too high but by the time the fight was going to start, his levels were on level with what they should have been.
Either way, the more I read, the more it seems that he's been doping his entire career. Sad stuff honestly.
I heard about this that must have really sucked for him "(
Awh man... that sucks!
