UFC: Live on Versus 4 was an AWESOME card on Sunday evening. Since Nate Marquadt got cut from the UFC, Barry vs Kongo became the main event... and what a main event it was.
Main Event: Pat Barry vs Cheick Kongo
If anyone didn't see this fight, check it out. Seriously, you would be doing an injustice to yourself. In perhaps the most SPECTACULAR comeback knock-out of all time, Cheick Kongo defeats Pat Barry via KO (punches). GIFs are amazing, but you really gotta watch this on video.
Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry: UFC Live 4 VIDEO (~4:00 long, WATCH IT!!)
Check the rest after the break!
Main Card (On Versus):
Charlie Brenneman def. Rick Story via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) -
Charlie Brenneman def. Rick Story via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) -
No GIFs for this fight, just imagine some wrestling takedowns over and over. Props to Brenneman for beating Story at his own game with like 3 days notice.
Matt Brown def. John Howard via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Matt Brown uses his crisper striking and wrestling to nullify 'Doomsday' Howard in a close fight.
Matt Mitrione def. Christian Morecraft by KO at 4:28, R2
Mitirione continues to evolve his MMA game with another fantastic finish. However, since being 4-0 in the UFC, he really needs to get a step-up in competition. He looked to be the much better striker vs Christian Morecraft last night.
Cue badass walk-away KO |
Prelim Card (On Facebook):
Tyson Griffin def. Manny Gamburyan via majority decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-29)
Tyson Griffin was in a must-need win situation Sunday night, and did what he needed to do to get the win. He controlled the take-downs and the striking over the visibly gassed Gamburyan.
Javier Vazquez def. Joe Stevenson via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)
If I had to guess, it looks as if Joe 'Daddy' Stevenson's career in the UFC is over. It's hard to imagine this guy being a top contender at one point, fighting (and getting demolished) by BJ Penn. It was indeed a strange fight, with Stevenson not showing any initiative during the fight even though he was obviously down the entire fight. He ignored top coach Greg Jackson's advice and constantly smiled throughout the fight... weird.
Joe Lauzon def. Curt Warburton via submission (kimura) - Round 1, 1:58
Joe Lauzon dominates another opponent. I love this guy, he absolutely goes for the finish or dies trying, and gets a BRUTAL kimura on Warburton.
Rich Attonito def. Daniel Roberts via unanimous decision (29-27, 30-27, 29-28)
Daniel Roberts was hyped up to be one of the best upcoming grapplers in the UFC and he has severely disappointed. Almost as disappointing as Roberts' poor performance was Attonito's lack of finish overly the extremely gassed Roberts. Its as if the worse Roberts got, the lack of care grew bigger for Rich.
Charles Oliveira def. Nik Lentz via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 2, 1:48
Interesting match, one guy I absolutely hate watching (Lentz - boring wrestler etc) versus Charles Oliveira (great, exciting grappler). However, about mid-way into the 2nd round Oliveira landed a blatant [unintentional] knee that the [SHITTY] referee completely missed, hurting Lentz badly and securing him a win.
Ricardo Lamas def. Matt Grice via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 4:41
I have to admit, I didn't catch this fight as I was eating :D
Michael Johnson def. Edward Faaloloto via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 4:42
Michael Johnson was a participant on the Ultimate Fighter, and has steadily shown improvement in his sriking (as being known as a wrestler). He looked crisp last night and that ultimately earned himself the 'W'.

Holy shit, that white guy looked like he was going down before that black guy even hit him. He just kinda....staggered and fell.
God, that Pat Berry fight was just nuts. Kongo looked out cold for about 5 seconds before waking up and kicking Pat's ass. That was one of the greatest comeback finishes i've seen. Up there with Struve vs whoever last year.
man these fights just get crazier and crazier
Ground and pound, poor fella must be feeling like 200lbs of ground beef after that

This is great!
nothing better than watching someone get beaten up
Been meaning to watch the Congo fight, I heard it was epic
I was thinking about posting on my blog about this fight even. It was sick.
Pat Barry is the better fighter in my opinion, but moving in without your hands up even is a dumb mistake... I almost don't feel bad that he got caught with the uppercut.
That must hurt!
