Another awesome Strikeforce card was given to us the previous Saturday, and it lived up to expectations, although it might have surprised some people. The card was stacked full of quality grapplers like Roger Gracie, Jacare Souza, Antonio Silva, and Josh Barnett. Well let's just say there were a few upsets.

Main Event

Josh Barnett defeats Sergei Kharitonov via Submission (Arm-Triangle) Round 1 -

What can I say about this fight? Sergei is known for his heavy handed strikes and Sambo background, while Barnett is known for his catch wrestling style. Barnett made this look too easy, with a trip takedown to full mount, finishing off with an easy arm triangle.

Daniel Cormier defeats Antonio Silva via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

Now this was probably the upset of the night, Daniel Cormier is a rising prospect coming in on short notice to replace Alistair Overeem. Silva's last fight was a complete domination of Fedor Emelianenko, so a lot of people were counting Cormier out. Cormier showed some heavy hands and KO's Silva in the 1st round after dropping him.

Luke Rockhold defeats Ronaldo Souza via Unanimous Decision

Rockhold was a relatively unknown fighter facing the Strikeforce MW Champion in Jacare Souza. Rockhold proved to be the upset with his superior striking and takedown defense. He got tagged a couple of times in this fight, but he wins the decision being the more aggressive and active fighter. 

Muhammed Lawal defeats Roger Gracie via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

Roger Gracie is probably the best BJJ guy ever to enter the MMA world. However, it's been shown time and time again that you must be well-rounded to succeed in the long run. Roger showed his poor striking and clinch ability and was put to sleep fairly easily, giving him his first loss.

Pat Healy defeats Maximo Blanco via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Round 2

Maximo, although very wild and exciting with his strikes, looked way under-sized in this fight, leading the much bigger Healy to constantly get the crucifix position and eventually a modified choke.
