What a crazy display of MMA just last night. Two legends of the sport, Fedor Emelianenko vs Dan Henderson, were set to do battle last night in the Strikeforce octagon.
Jon Jones is the current light-heavyweight champion in the UFC. He is also the youngest ever champion at the age of 23. His rise to fame has been quite astronomical in the UFC, especially with his complete domination of Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua. As of now I'd say he's definitely the #1 light-heavyweight in the world.
This guy is also a highlight machine, bringing crazy striking like spinning back elbows, to awesome throws and suplexes. His first title defense will be against Rampage Jackson.
Jon 'Bones' Jones
MMA Record: 13 wins -1 losses (DQ)
Knockouts:8
Submissions: 3
Decision Wins: 2

Jon Jones began wrestling in his early life and was a state champion high school wrestler. He also wrestling at Iowa Central Community College, grappling a national JUCO title. He would make his MMA debut in 2008.
Back to you guys with another results and GIFs post, feels like it's been forever since I've had one of these. After taking a couple of weeks off, Bellator once again emerged on MTV2 last night with some decent fights. The main event, however, was a bit boring in my eyes (and in the crowds.)
Main Card Pat Curran def. Ronnie Mann by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27), R3 - Definitely an underwhelming fight, Mann looked promising with his last TKO win in Bellator, but was content with losing a decision in this fight. Curran also was content with getting a decision, which is always his style, so it made it quite a boring fight.
There was recently a fight featuring Kim Couture, Randy Couture's ex wife, where Kim was choked out via leg scissors and it took the referee quite a long time to figure out that she was passed out.
This sparked some debates on many MMA forums about some of the worst examples of MMA reffing. Well I have two videos here that are absolutely rage inducing, and for those new to MMA I'll explain why.
In the first clip, the guy in the white shorts (on top), gets the bottom fighter into a head and arm choke, or an arm triangle. How this choke works is that on one side, the attacker's bicep cuts off one of the carotid arteries, and the victim's own arm cuts off the other one.
While the choke could be finished from mount, hopping to the side where the victim's arm is makes the choke almost impossible to escape if locked on, and a fighter can go unconscious in a matter of seconds. The bottom fighter obviously taps.... and taps and taps but eventually passes out. And while we see people pass out from chokes all the time in MMA, its usually voluntarily from not tapping. This ref is an absolute moron.
The next video I'm about to show you is even worse, so be prepared.
So one of the fighters is dropped by a punch, and it's perfectly acceptable to stop the fight right there if the referee desired, and it seemed like he did. Well, until there was some confusion and decided to continue the fight, while the (unaware) fighter on all fours gets brutally KO'd by a clean soccer kick to the head. I sincerely hope this referee got his clock cleaned after the fight.
Hello fellow bloggers, back again with another career highlight. Just like I did with Fedor/Dan Henderson, I will follow up the Carlos Condit post with his upcoming opponent B.J. Penn. He too is an exciting fighter, known for his 'just scrap' attitude.
B.J. 'The Prodigy' Penn
MMA Record: 16 wins - 7 losses - 2 Draws
Knockouts: 7
Submissions: 6
Decision Wins: 3
Notable Ranks: Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Camp: BJ Penn's MMA
Honors: Former UFC Lightweight/Welterweight Champion, Submission of the Night x 2, Knockout of the Night.
I thought for my next fighter profiles I would pick some of my favorite fighters, and Carlos Condit is one of them. He fights to finish EVERY fight, none of this lay n pray or wall n stall. If it hits the ground, he's looking for a sweep or submission, and a KO if it's on the feet.
Carlos 'The Natural Born Killer' Condit
MMA Record: 27 wins - 5 losses
Knockouts: 13
Submissions: 13
Decision Wins: 1
Notable Ranks: Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Camp: Greg Jackson's Submission Fighting
Honors: Former WEC Welterweight Champion - 2 x Fight of the Night - 2 x KO of the Night
In the past we've all been treated to some nice UFC cards, especially UFC 132. However, I can't help but notice that there seems to be some kind of injury or health related curse that has fallen on the sport. Here's a look at some of the main events that have been cancelled recently.
UFC 128: Shogun vs Evans - Rashad Evans injures his knee, Jon Jones (now LHW champion) steps in versus Shogun
UFC Fight Night 24: Ortiz vs Nogueira - Tito Ortiz receives a severe cut on his forehead during training and has to pull out from his fight. Phil Davis steps in and wins.
UFC 130: Edgar vs Maynard III - Both Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard are injured and pull out. It looks like the co-main event Rampage vs Thiago Silva will become the main event but THEN Silva gets injured. The event is then headlined UFC 130: Rampage vs Hamill.
UFC 131: Lesnar vs Dos Santos - Brock Lesnar suffers a recurring stomach illness and has to pull out. Shane Carwin (originally slated to fight Jon Einemo), steps up to fight Dos Santos.
UFC on Versus: Marquardt vs Story - if you have followed Marquardt's situation, it's that he failed a pre-fight medical, due to testosterone replacement therapy, AKA he's been roiding and looking for an excuse out. Nate Marquardt is replaced by Charlie Brenneman and they become the co-main event. Kongo vs Barry becomes the main event.
UFC 132: Penn vs Fitch II - both guys withdraw due to injury, Faber and Cruz become main event.
UFC 133: Jones vs Evans - This one is just complicated. During Jon Jones fight with Shogun, Jones apparently injures his hand, forcing him to pull out of the Evans fight. He finds out that he can still fight, but instead he will be fighting Rampage at a later date. Then the main event turned into Rashad Evans vs Phil Davis, but Davis gets injured and pulls out. Now Evan's opponent will be Lyoto Machida.
The annual summer sales event for Steam has sadly come to end, but my wallet is probably pretty happy right now. Over the course of June 30th-July 10th, Valve and other publishers have offered us gamers some great discounts.
The question I'm posing for my readers is:
1. Did you participate in the summer sales? and 2. What games did you buy?
Since I did a highlight post of Dan Henderson, I thought it was only fitting to do a Fedor post next. If you didn't know already, those two will be fighting July 30th.
Notable Wins: Andrei Arlovski, Tim Sylvia, Mark Coleman, Mirko 'CroCop', Antonio Nogueria
At one point in his career, Fedor Emelianenko, was unofficially undefeated. His career record was 31-1, with the one loss due to a doctor stoppage on cuts. As he tore through Pride in what many think was his career prime, he was considered by many the best MMA fighter in the world.
Times have changed for Fedor though, as he has dropped two fights in a row to good competition. His first true loss came to a triangle choke to Fabricio Werdum, and his 2nd was a brutal TKO loss to Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva. He faces a fellow legend, Dan Henderson, in what could be a deciding fight for his career.
I've been thinking about doing some posts where there will be GIFs of best KOs/submissions/slams etc. of a particular fighter. How would you guys like that, should I stick with the idea?
Dan Henderson is one of the all time greats in MMA. Known for his wrestling credentials, huge KO power, and iron jaw/will, he's one of the fan favorites of the MMA world.
Possibly my favorite KO of all time
Dan Henderson had a beef with Michael Bisping during their time coaching the TUF. As most people already knew, Henderson has big knockout power, and he knocked Michael Bisping out with a punch that was thrown from last week. He's not big on pre-fight trash talking so it made it so much sweeter for me (Bisping is a huge trash talker).
Happy Independence Day to all my American readers!
Is there anything you guys have planned for today? I'm off work and will be having a grill-out with friends and family, should be a good time. Enjoy your day off!
There a bit of some bad blood going into the fight with these two fighters. Cruz being the UFC champ, he was certain that he would successfully defend his belt. Faber being the challenger, but also having beaten Cruz in the past, was fairly cocky about it.
I thought this was a pretty good fight, both guys couldn't secure takedowns long enough to keep it on the ground so it was mainly a stand-up match. Cruz used his unorthodox movement to keep Faber at bay while Faber did have some success with his power punches.Cruz really showed a lack of punching power though, I don't think any of his punches ruffled Faber's hair.
