Main Event
-Anderson Silva def. Yushin Okami via TKO (strikes) - Round 2, 2:04 -
Lets face it, Anderson has been cleaning out the MW division for a long time now. Okami, who had previously been on a UFC tear was definitely a title contender, and a training partner to Chael Sonnen (who lost previously to Silva). Okami is also the last man to 'beat' Silva. I say 'beat' because the win was by DQ, so nothing really impressive. However, last night Silva absolutely had his way with Yushin Okami, knocking him down with jabs and straight punches.
A fucking jab with his hands completely at his side. |
Main Card (PPV)
-Mauricio "Shogun" Rua def. Forrest Griffin via TKO (punches) - Round 1, 1:53 -
This was another anticipated rematch. Forrest beat Shogun the first time via RNC, and a lot of fans placed it under the 'fluke win' category. However, Forrest wanted to come in and prove it wasn't a fluke. Unfortunately for him he was TKO'd with some brutal hammer-fists.
-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira def. Brendan Schaub via TKO (punches) - Round 1, 3:09 -
Definitely an interesting match-up. Schaub has been on a KO tear, although the competition was frankly pretty sub-par. He KO'd the older Cro-Cop and suddenly thinks he's a HW contender. A lot of fans thought Nogueira was going to KO'd in this fight too, but he actually ended up KO'ing Schaub was some beautiful boxing technique. I was cheering for Nogueira so I loved the outcome!
-Edson Barboza def. Ross Pearson via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
This was an action packed fight was tons of tight combos. Really hard to call the fight while it was happening, but it was very enjoyable. Ultimately, I think Barboza landed the harder shots.
-Stanislav Nedkov def. Luiz Cane via TKO (punches) - Round1, 4:13-
Nedkov came in here the grappler, and Cane being the puncher. However, in the later portion of the 1st round, the tables turned when Nedkov landed a right hand that screwed with Cane's equilibrium, as he did a rather funny 'kick' towards the cage before being KO'd with some shots from Nedkov.

I guessed all but one of them correctly!
The Silva Okami fight was great to watch at the pub, had everyone going
That guy got discombobulated. :D
Both Okami and Shaub got barraged by the amount of the hits. Still, terrific efforts. Silva was astonishing with keeping his arms close to the body and just finding a split second to strike.
Hmmm, didn't seem that impressive to me this time...
